Aloha my name is Mirella Vasquez Brooks, Ph.D., MSN, FNP, APRN. I was born and raised in  New York City and received my nurses training at City College. I graduated in 1984, and begin my nursing career at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. In 1988,  I started working as a traveling nurse and for several years I traveled around the world while studying at the University of Hawaii where I met my husband. In 1996, I got married and I finished my advanced nursing education in 2005 earning my Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii .

 I am an Assistant Professor with the University of Hawaii at Manoa In the School of Nursing.and currently I teach in the masters degree program. I am also the clinical placements coordinator and the advisor for the family nurse practitioner option. My research interest are women’s health, genetics and chronic illnesses. I  live on the beautiful Hawaiian Island of Oahu with my husband Michael. We enjoy water sports, tennis, bicycling, hiking, and traveling to new destinations
